TPCDT and Mannat Foundation were established with the objective of institutionalizing community development activities in affected communities of Tata Power operations. The Trusts have taken up three areas for focus:
Access to Potable drinking water
Lack of drinking water is one of the major causes of misery in rural India. In the absence of clean water, people are forced to drink dirty or contaminated water affecting their health. Many waterborne diseases are also spread this way. With this issue in mind TPCDT has made providing access to drinking water for affected communities as one of the focus areas. This includes educating communities about water conservation and protecting the existing water sources. It also focuses on increasing the health of the community members through educating them about waterborne diseases.

Lighting up lives … Sustainably
Many rural communities in India are situated far away from conventional power sources. Due to this they cannot access power from these sources. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind are an attractive alternate for these people. In line with its goal of 'Lighting up lives...sustainably' TPCDT provides solar-based and bio gas-based energy solutions for these communities. In one exemplary initiative, fishermen in coastal Gujarat have been provided solar lights which lengthen the period of time they can stay out in the sea.

Enabling Youth; Engaging Youth
Mannat Foundation aims to enhance the employability of rural population of India by engaging the rural youth and enhancing their skill set. The Foundation has played a key role in this by setting up a rural BPO with an aim to develop vocational and English language skills. This has enabled many employees to enroll for higher education. The employees are also able to enter the organised sector to seek better employment opportunities as a result of these skills.
